Climate Change Business Journal Recognizes Firms for Growth and Innovation
Annual CCBJ Business Achievement Awards will be presented
March 9, 2011 at the Hotel Del Coronado, San Diego
San Diego, Calif. (February 7, 2011) - Climate Change Business Journal (CCBJ), a business research publication that provides strategic business intelligence about the climate change industry, honored 32 companies for their contributions to mitigating climate change in 2010.
"In this fast-emerging industry just about everyone by definition is an early mover and a risk taker and thereby deserving of recognition, but certain companies and organizations stood out in 2010," said Grant Ferrier, president of Environmental Business International, publisher of CCBJ.
The journal announced the winners in a recent edition, and representatives of the winning companies will be recognized during a special ceremony at EBI's upcoming Environmental Industry Summit IX in Coronado, Calif., on March 9, 2011. The following are just some of the companies winning 2010 Business Achievement awards.
Demand Response Company Gets Gold
CCBJ
gave its Gold Business Achievement award for growth to EnerNoc, Inc. (Boston), which provides
demand response and energy management services to power grid operators and
large energy users. EnerNoc grew 57% through the first three quarters of 2010
to revenues of $257 million and had over 5,100 megawatts under management
across more than 3,500 customers. "Studies have shown that energy use can
be reduced by 15 to 25 percent from business-as-usual through energy efficiency
and demand response, so we're particularly pleased to recognize EnerNOC,"
said Ferrier.

Consulting & Engineering Firms Build Climate Change Practices
A growing number of environmental consulting and engineering (C&E) firms have climate change practices, and CCBJ
forecasts robust annual growth of 20-25%
through 2012 for climate change consulting in the United States.
The Gold for C&E Climate Change Practice went to $6.5 billion architectural and engineering firm AECOM (Los Angeles) for achieving a leading position as an advocate and consultant for climate change mitigation and adaptation in both private and public sectors. AECOM has executed more than 150 such projects worldwide, including preparing 70 adaptation plans for municipalities, utilities and businesses in Australia and New Zealand, and climate action plans for 30 local governments in the United States. The firm is working with the Asia Development Bank on climate change studies for Indonesia, Laos and Vietnam. The architectural and engineering firm has bulked up its climate change expertise significantly over the last several years through acquisition.
Best C&E in the Renewable Energy Category
CH2M Hill (Englewood, Colo.)
was recognized with a gold award in the category of C&E: Renewable Energy
Practice. "CH2M Hill is one of the most broadly capable firms in the
consulting segment of the wind power industry," said Jim Hight, CCBJ
senior editor. In 2010, the company obtained permits for the 800 MW Alta Oak
Creek Mojave Wind Energy Project in California; performed due diligence for a
50MW geothermal plant in California; and prepared a cost estimate for a 30 MW
flashed steam geothermal plant in Utah. CH2M HILL is also active in both PV and
concentrating solar power (CSP) thermal projects.
Uniquely Structured Wind Power Transaction Recognized
In Business Achievement: Finance, gold went to Cannon Power (San Diego)
for closing a 20-year, $547 million pre-paid power purchase agreement (PPA)
with Southern California Public Power Authority (SCPPA). The PPA represents
more than 70% of the expected annual production from Cannon Power's 262 MW Wind
Flats wind project in Goldendale, Wash. The project also received $220 million
in ARRA stimulus funding, combining SCPPA's low-cost, tax exempt bond financing
with the federal stimulus grant program to produce "a very attractive long-term
cost of renewable power," noted Cannon President Gary Hardke in a Cannon
news release.
NextEra Energy Resources (Juno Beach, Fla.) was honored for its leadership in owning and developing utility-scale wind and solar power. With more than 8,200 MW of existing wind power capacity in the United States and Canada, the company, a subsidiary of NextEra Energy, produces roughly 20% of wind-generated electricity in the United States. NextEra is a major fossil and nuclear power producer, but for the future growth of its generation portfolio intends to focus most of its resources on solar and wind.
CCBJ also honored 14 companies in the Project Merit and Technology Merit categories. For a full list see http://www.climatechangebusiness.com/2010_CCBJ_Awards
